Metaphysics and the Movies according to Dartanion2
So, have you guys seen this movie? One of the best big “Blockbuster” movies ever made. It has FANTASTIC everything. Cast: Bruce Willis, Liv Tyler, Ben Affleck, Billy Bob Thornton, and an unbelievable supporting cast. (I don’t think Hollywood could afford to put this cast together again) FANTASTIC special effects. FANTASTIC director. FANTASTIC story line. As far as this “type” of movie goes it’s up there with Independence Day and Deep Impact. Everything about this film is BIG! It really is an amazing film to watch. I’ve seen it three times and every now and then, as I’m flipping through the movie channels, i’ll stop and watch a few minutes…..because it’s so BIG! It’s fun to watch this kind of film every once in a while.
When the movie opens it’s revealed that an asteroid is headed directly toward Earth. The President, while talking to NASA asks why we…

Hi folks,
Because Tony is resting and this page is a repeat, I am going to complete the second part of my essay for you about the stars that he was unable to finish due to technical problems. It sort of fits in on this page as it is about the universe and all its wonders. I hope you enjoy the second part!!
Please feel free to comment on the blog as the more people that comment on it the more interesting the discussions become. So please join in with the discussions on here and let Tony know what you think when you read these pages as he works very hard on this blog and considering he is in constant pain he really goes out of his way to bring us all this interesting information.

THE SCALE OF THE UNIVERSE
The distance we encounter in our exploration of the universe is overwhelmingly large! Astronomers use the speed of light to make distances more comprehensible to us laymen. Light and radio waves and all other forms of electromagnetic radiation is the fastest thing in the universe. It travels at 300.000 km ( 186.282 ) miles per second! This means that it circles the earth in one seventh of a second! It travels to us from the moon in 1.3 seconds and from the sun in just over eight minutes, this gives you an idea of just how far away the sun is from earth. Signals from a spacecraft as far away from earth as the planet Neptune which is the farthest planet! take over four hours to reach us!
Light travels for many years to reach us from the stars. The distance light travels in a year is 9.5 trillion km ( 5.9 trillion miles ) and this is called a light year. The closest star is 4.2 light years away from earth! Astronomers also talk about light seconds, light minutes and light hours.
Stars in the Milky Way are tens of thousands of light years away from earth: other galaxies are millions of light years away. The farthest limits of our observability are the intensely bright objects known as quasars. Their light takes over 11 billion years to reach earth, so can you imagine what lies beyond all that space? it`s just mind boggling!!
So next time you hear a little one singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star! see if you can remember some of these fascinating facts, then pass them on to start their minds and imaginations working! They could well be the next important explorers of our known universe.
